· Chapecó

A key sector of Brazil’s farming industry

Chapecó, in the west of Santa Catarina State in the South of Brazil, is now one of the key centers of farming and associated industries in Brazil. Functioning as the capital of the Western part of the State, it is the main city in a region with population of 1 million in more than 200 towns and counties, which host the head offices of Brazil’s principal processors and exporters of pork, poultry and derivative products. Its population, like its economy, is growing rapidly. According to the Brazilian Geography and Statistics Institute (IBGE), Chapecó has a population of 170,000, of which 93% is urban and 7% rural.
Chapecó also has a singular role as a center of business tourism – attracting visitors from all over Brazil and the world to Brazilian and international sector and multi-sector events.

Chapecó has a modern airport, and is on the BR-282, BR-480 and SC-283 highways. Modern intercity buses (including sleepers) operate to the rest of the state and the rest of Brazil.
